INTRODUCTION
East Street in Southampton – blocked for decades by the East Street Shopping Centre – is set to be restored as an open pedestrian thoroughfare that will re-link St Mary's with the city centre. The centre's replacement with the retail attraction of a new Morrisons food store will increase footfall in East Street, improve trade for existing retailers and help to stimulate further regeneration of this part of the city centre.
The proposed redevelopment is being undertaken on behalf of the London & Henley Group of Companies by its development manager, Centros. This website presents the proposals for the redevelopment and seeks the feedback of both the local community and the wider public. That feedback will be used in the preparation of a planning application to be made early this spring.
